On the 26th of February, Sebastiano will play in Benjamin Britten’s opera Noye’s Fludde, conducted by Daniele Rosina. The performance will take place at the Saint Nicholas Parish in King Norton.

AT THE COMPOSERS PLATFORM

Sebastiano’s composition Bead Music No. 1 for marimba will be performed by Bryn Bowen on 23rd January 2012 at Birmingham Conservatoire.

Bead music is a series of short tonal compositions for keyboards or tuned percussion, conceived using notes as if they were beads stitched onto textile. As the little spheres of different colour, shape and size create art craftworks, likewise notes of different values, dynamics and timbres form these compositions. Their sonority is intentionally delicate and consonant, their technique fairly simple, aiming to be played by students.

Sebastiano will also play with THE SUPERGROUP, a group of doctoral students who play modern reconstructions of forgotten pieces found through their research.

THE BIRMINGHAM JUNIOR CONSERVATOIRE ORCHESTRA

On the 21st January 2012, Sebastiano will be playing with the Junior Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daniele Rosina. The program includes Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Elgar’s Wand of youth (Suites 1 and 2) and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite.

Concert starts at 7:30pm in the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire. Free entry.

On the 13th January 2012, The Sebastiano Dessanay Trio (featuring Tobie Carpenter on Guitar and Tym Jozwiak on drums) will perform at Ort Cafe, Birmingham. They will be playing a mixture of original compositions by Sebastiano and Tobie, plus some standards.

MIRROR No.5 AT THE COMPOSERS PLATFORM

The new short piece Mirror No.5 was premiered at the Composers Platform at Birmingham Conservatoire on the 12th of December 2011, featuring Rens Claerhoudt on violin and Rob Kurnatowski on cello.

The piece explores symmetries both in pitches and structure, as done before in the other pieces of the series. The initial mirroring pitch is a D. However, the mirroring system appears to be ‘cracked’ towards the halfway point, resulting in a ‘dislocation’ of the second half, where the mirroring pitch becomes an E.

LIVE WITH DECIBEL ENSEMBLE CANCELLED

On the 21st of November 2011, Sebastiano’s performance with Decibel ensemble at Birmingham Conservatoire has been cancelled due to minor health problems. The concert will still take place. They will play music by composer and decibel founder Ed Bennett, whose new CD My Broken Machines will be presented. Concert starts at 7.30 pm in the Recital Hall. Price £5.50 (£3), free for Conservatoire students.

RUNNING THE BUPA GREAT BIRMINGHAM RUN

On the 23rd of October 2011, Sebastiano successfully completed the Bupa Great Birmingham Run. He ran the full 13 miles in 02:04:41 (placing 6155th out of more than 15,000 participants).

Sebastiano managed to raise £203.80 for Cancer Research UK.
