‘KEEP YOUR FEET UP’ AT THE SOUNDS NEW FESTIVAL

Sebastiano’s composition Keep Your Feet Up (while I speak) will be performed on the 14th of May 2012 by Thumb Ensemble conducted by Dan Watson at the Sounds New Festival in Canterbury. The program also includes works by Andy Ingamells, Ed Bennett and Stephen Willey. The concert will take place at St. Gregory’s Centre for Music and will start at 2.30pm.

RACHEL NICHOLAS’ ALBUM AND LIVE

Sebastiano played the bass in the debut album Invisible Girl by singer-songwriter Rachel Nicholas. The album will be out on Monday the 7th of May 2012 and will be available to buy on Rachel’s Bandcamp page and on iTunes.

Rachel will be performing together with Sebastiano on bass and Luke Deane on percussion on the following dates:

IN ‘SIX MEMOS – THE MANCUNIAN CUT’ FILM BY DANIELE LEDDA

Sebastiano Dessanay was featured on Daniele Ledda’s Six Memos – The Mancunian cut, a docu-fiction about artists living and working in a specific town, who give their interpretation of Six Memos for the Next Millennium lectures by Italo Calvino.

AT THE CULTURAL OLYMPIAD 20×12

On the 6th of May 2012 Sebastiano will be performing in Michael Wolters’ new piece The Voyage, at the A E Harris/Stan’s Cafe in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. This event showcases four weird and wonderful new works by composers from Birmingham Conservatoire. These four works have been commissioned amongst the twenty chosen as part of the Cultural Olympiad’s New Music 20×12 programme.

The event includes also compositions by Howard Skempton, Joe Cutler and Richard Causton. Concert starts at 11.45. Tickets: £6, £4 (Concs.) Free for under 5′s.

SONATINA FOR TUBA AND ELECTRONICS

The new composition Sonatina for tuba and electronics by Sebastiano will be performed on the 19th of April 2012 at the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire, featuring Andy Johnson on tuba and Sebastiano Dessanay on live electronics. The piece was commissioned by Andy for his BMus major project. Concert will start at 19.30 and it’s free for Conservatoire students.

WITH RACHEL NICHOLAS AT THE YARDBIRD’S SUNDAY SOCIAL

Sebastiano will be playing with songwriter Rachel Nicholas for the Sunday Social night at the Yardbird Club in Birmingham on the 25th of March. The band also features Luke Deane on percussion. Concert starts at 6pm and also features Echotape, It Hugs Back, Chris Hope, The Offbeat. Entry is free.

SONGBOOK VOLUME TWO RELEASE DATE

Sebastiano Dessanay’s album Songbook Volume Two will be released on the 2nd of April 2012 with London-based label F-IRE. The album includes all compositions by Sebastiano and features Alessandro Di Liberto on piano, Pierpaolo Frailis on drums and Fulvio Sigurtà on trumpet and flugelhorn as guest on three tracks.

The album will be for sale on the major digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon etc.) as well as physical product from the main UK jazz record stores. Also you will be able to buy it directly from the F-IRE website as well as from this website by sending me an email.

HEINER GOEBBELS AT THE FRONTIERS FESTIVAL

On Thursday the 22nd of March, as part of the Frontiers Festival and Heiner Goebbels residency at Birmingham Conservatoire, Sebastiano will be performing with Decibel Ensemble conducted by Daniele Rosina. The program includes Red Run by Heiner Goebbels plus works by other cutting edge composers. Concert starts at 7.30pm in the Recital Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire. Tickets: £5.50, £3 (concessions), free for BCU students.

WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM ORCHESTRAS

On Friday the 2nd of March 2012 , Sebastiano performed with the University of Birmingham Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sophie Williamson and Jack Lovell at the Barber Institute of Arts in Edgbaston
.The program included Beethoven’s Overture ‘Egmont’, Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Haydn’s Symphony No.87.

Also on Sunday the 18th of March 2012, Sebastiano will be performing with the University of Birmingham Choir and Philarmonic Orchestra conducted by Daniele Rosina at the Birmingham Town Hall. The program includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5 and Haydn’s Missa in angustiis. Concert starts at 6pm. Tickets: £15, £10 (concessions), £5 (students).

BRITTEN’S NOYE’S FLUDDE

On the 26th of February, Sebastiano will play in Benjamin Britten’s opera Noye’s Fludde, conducted by Daniele Rosina. The performance will take place at the Saint Nicholas Parish in King Norton.
